My ISIC arrived today!
Well, folks, I am home on spring break at the moment and found a college locally that allows you to apply for the ISIC (International Student Identity Card) in person. I wanted an ISIC because it entitles students to a great number of discounts domestically and overseas. One of the big bonuses is that you can get EXCELLENT deals on airfare from STA Travel. Just compare a OW (one way) flight from LAX (Los Angeles, CA, USA) to AKL (Auckland, NZ) in late September on STA Travel’s blue ticket versus checking for a price on Kayak.com - the blue ticket has prices about $520 and some “cheap” flights on Kayak are listed at over $1000. Not to mention the fare rules being different.
Anyway, all you needed to do at the college was fill out a form, attach a passport photo, and pay the $22. The shipping fee was waived (though the minimum option is $3 and that happens to be the cost of an all-day bus here, so I kinda just diverted where those three dollars would go) and you get it much faster, which I thought was all well and dandy.
Only thing is, my card says that I am a student at that local college where I applied, not at my actual college. I wonder why this is the case, but as I didn’t notice that it arrived today until Mom was going through the mail when she got home from work (which, sadly, is after the office closed for the day), I’ll have to wait until Monday to call the place. Maybe it’s because they have the information on file? That’s the best I can gather.
Another interesting thing to note is that it says the date of issuance is 11/3/09 and that the validity is 3/11/09 - 3/11/10. Could someone get confused and think November 3rd instead of March 11th for one of them?
